Cocoa Life aims to help lift the people and protect the landscapes with the aim of bringing dynamic change to communities and landscapes where cocoa beans grow before it becomes the chocolate for the snacks the world loves. Cocoa Life leverages smart innovation and collaboration across the sector to co-create new solutions and help make transformational impact.
This involves tailoring actions to help address farmers’ diverse needs and working in and beyond the cocoa sector to help scale landscape-wide initiatives.
We publish our progress in the annual Mondelēz International Snacking Made Right Report. We engage FLOCERT and Ipsos to verify and measure our progress and impact, keeping us on track. Independent third-party limited assurance is provided on a set of Cocoa Life program metrics. View the latest statement in our ESG Reporting & Disclosure Reporting Archive.
OUR PROGRESS
We aim to create dynamic change in cocoa-producing communities. Cocoa Life set the goal of reaching 200,000 farmers and one million community members by 2022; and achieving this has been crucial to continue the journey to reach our goal to source 100% cocoa volume for Mondelēz International's chocolate brands from Cocoa Life by 2025.
BY THE END OF 2024:
2023 GLOBAL PROGRESS DASHBOARD
This dashboard demonstrates the scale achieved by the end of 2023 and how Cocoa Life is making progress in cocoa-producing countries. Cocoa Life monitors the below indicators under three key focus areas, which we put in place with our partners.
HOW WE MEASURE PROGRESS
OUR AMBITIONS
By 2025, we aim to:
• Source 100% of cocoa volume for Mondelēz International’s chocolate brands through the Cocoa Life program.
• Cover 100% of Cocoa Life communities in West Africa with a Child Labor Monitoring & Remediation System (CLMRS).
VERIFICATION & LEARNING
We work with independent third-party organizations to verify and measure our progress and impact.
Impact Evaluation
Ipsos conducts studies that evaluate Cocoa Life’s progress and impact in cocoa producing countries. This helps us to understand the program’s on-the-ground impact and where we can continue to improve. For more information on IPSOS’ impact evaluation click here.
Supply Chain Verification
FLOCERT verifies the volume of cocoa from Cocoa Life communities into our supply chain. It also confirms that the benefits, such as premium payments, are passed to farmer organizations. Verification drives learning and reporting transparency.
REPORTING
REPORTING
At Cocoa Life, we measure and externally verify our impact on farmers and communities to learn and enhance our program. By evaluating our progress and impact, we are able to better understand the issues in cocoa, continually assess our work, as well as share insights with sector partners to help drive more sustainable change.
